Rehearsal & Rehearsal Dinner

Posted by Zane under: Personal .

This day started out just as hectic as yesterday did.  Katie and Jenn got up around 8:00 am this morning and got ready to go so they could get their nails done.  I got up shortly after they did and started to get ready just in case I was needed to go do something.  When Jenn and Katie got back Sean had just gotten home and we decided to get lunch at Zaxby’s and then we went our separate ways.  Jenn and I had to go the Prime Outlet in Gaffney because I wanted to get some shirts for work from the Polo Outlet.  On the way up to the Outlet we had to drop off my mom’s ID badge for work and stop by the bank to make a deposit.  By the time we had gotten back to Sean & Katie’s apartment it was around 4:15 pm.  Katie was there by herself packing for their honeymoon and Sean had got to pick up their getaway car.

Jenn and I started getting ready since we needed to leave by 5:15 pm to make it to the rehearsal at 6:00 pm.  Sean had gotten back with a Tahoe, he had really hoped to get a Corvette or SSR but they didn’t have any on the lot.  Believe it or not everyone was in the Tahoe and ready to go by 5:15 pm.  We got there a little early which was good so we could help setup before everyone else got there.  Two days prior their wedding planner had to have emergency surgery and have her appendix removed, but fortunately for Sean & Katie’s sake she had a diagram of how everything was supposed to take place.  The preacher’s wife took over or so it seemed until the lady that owns Twigs got there and she took control.  Everything went pretty smoothly there so that was good.

The rehearsal dinner was at Stax Grill just down the street from Twigs so it was extra convenient, we arrived at 7:15.  It was kind of chaotic getting everyone in their places to be seated.  Once everyone was seated, Sean got up and thanked everyone for coming and started to introduce everyone starting with his best man, his brother Josh, but he couldn’t even get his name out because he was already chocked up.  It took Katie a few minutes before she got up and took over, she did a great job.  Once the introductions were over the waitresses came in and told everyone what was on the menu, we had our choice of filet, shrimp, chicken, or salmon.  They came around and got our drink and salad orders and a few minutes later they came back with the drinks, meanwhile everyone was talking amongst themselves.  A few moments later they came and took our entree orders followed by the delivery of the salads.  Once everyone finished their salads it wasn’t long before the entrée’s arrived.  Jenn had the chicken and I had the filet and all I can say is wow!  Everything was great!

Once everyone finished their entrée’s the cake was served.  After the cake, the floor was open to anyone who wished to speak and give a few words of wisdom.  Kevin broke the ice with, “make sure you get a hold of that checkbook!”  Of course everyone laughed.  Quite a few people spoke, as for me I couldn’t.  It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to say, it was all the kind words that were given that made me too emotional to speak.  Sean’s dad, Garry, and step dad, Denny, gave great speeches.  Denny said that he was not only gained a son when he married his mom, but was now gaining a daughter.  Sean’s mom had a video done with pictures that were submitted by almost everyone in the room.  It started out with Katie and showed her as a baby all the way up through her college graduation.  Following Katie, was Sean’s turn with the same events.  It ended with pictures of the two of them and showed everyone just how happy they are together.  It was a real tearjerker, but it was great!  Sean got up and said a few final words before the dinner ended, one thing that he said is that everyone in the room are so much more then just friends.  Once everyone was finished giving their advice Sean & Katie started to hand out their gifts to the bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents, grandparents, etc.  The bridesmaids received pearl earrings with a matching necklace and the groomsmen received a very nice money click with the respective persons initials engraved on it.

As dinner ended most people left and some people stayed around, Jenn and I were two of those people.  I made it a point to speak with Denny and Cathy to tell them thank you for having Jenn and I.  Denny told me how much he appreciated that we were such great friends.  He told me that he’s been to a lot of bad bachelor parties and that respected Kevin and I for making the extra effort to respect Sean’s beliefs for his party.  Cathy thanked us for coming and all the help we’d given.  Once everyone made their way to the parking lot Sean & Katie had to go sign their marriage license so that wouldn’t have to be done tomorrow.  By the time we got back to Sean & Katie’s apartment and the car got loaded with everything that needed to go with us in the morning along with the suitecases it was close to 11:30 pm before Jenn and Katie left to go to Denny & Cathy’s house.  Once they had got there I got a phone call from Jenn asking if we had packed Katie’s shoes, garter, etc.  I had to look through the apartment to find it and then run it over, by the time I got back it was 12:15 am.  Sean and I were up until 1:00 am when we called it a night.
